friday

don’t have much time to update left but i’ll try to cover the highlights.

  • ate breakfast: kimchi mal ee naengmyun

  • ate lunch: with Daniel a young brazilian doctor who i smoke half a pack of cigs with. we had daejigogi (pork) and mool naengmyun (cold noodles).
  • met up with yumi and grace; had a 5,000 won coffee (why is it so frickin expensive here?!)

  • came back to the hostel and drank with the hostel proprietor and his friends. talked about KEEP with them and they were really shocked that the program exists and that i actually want to go on it. haha. i got invited to go to church with one of them; it’s a “people’s theology” church, kinda like korean-style liberation theology. i just might go…

  • went to Myungdong Cathedral to support the Migrant Trade Union candlelight vigils against the crackdown on migrant workers. i’ll post pics soon.
  • ate korean fried chicken!!! it’s SO good. fried > saucy (as always), but the way it’s fried here is so different.
  • i started to fade, so i headed towards home… but then i called kyung hee and went out to the clubby part of hongdae for more food! kyung hee was celebrating the birthday of a friend of hers, michelle. somehow through the course of conversation, found out that michelle is the cousin of my friend io. small ass world.
  • ate just a couple pieces of samgyupsal (pork belly), fucking amazing. and then i was going to head home…
  • but decided to let myself get pulled in and go dancing @ 1 am
  • drank lil bottles of soju on the sidewalk. man approached and started jacking off right by my face. luckily, michelle is a badass and started yelling at him cuz i had no idea.
  • then danced till 4:30am
  • then went to get more food at pojangmacha. Kimchi jun (pancake) and gaeran maree (a fluffly egg thing). sadly i have no pictures because i was hammered.
  • stumbled back to the hostel. 6:00am

that it looked like this!

…who was handing out these! jyo seu (jaws) bar. it was okay. the best part about it was…

and then there was this guy…

pork. first bbq of the trip. it was 5,000 won (less than 5 bucks). and then i had another cold noodle naengmyun (3500 won). unbelievable.

this is daniel. we chain-smoked cigarettes outside the hostel while we were waiting for our respective friends. and then we decided to get something to eat.

kimchi mal ee naengmyun. cold noodles. tart & tangy. vinegar-y

dried fish (i think) and garlic scapes. my fav banchan so far

breakfast at this place. please note the 3,000 won soju which is the normal price. bottle of soju = cheaper than coffee.

metro, line 2, hongik university station. so clean and on time and cheap.
